Just Write

Finished reading On Writing by Stephen King and enjoyed it. Definitely a unique approach to a "writing book" and I enjoyed it. Made me reflect a bit on who I am as a writer... or not. It seems like a lot of writers have a plethora of stories boiling forth from their creative innards and I just don't feel that.

I've been working on a screenplay for a few years now about what happened after the birth of my son, but I feel like that's a story I've had bestowed upon me that I must tell. It's based on true events, not a creative boil I must lance.

While I love writing and revising and editing and reading and majored in English, I've never been one for creating stories. Maybe creative nonfiction or nonfiction or memoir is my wheelhouse? I don't know. As long as I'm writing, it's good. Gotta block those judgments.

In other news, I think I'm going to pursue an alternative career and continue exploring and learning. The hubs said if it gets to the point where I can't handle teaching and training, we could discuss leaving teaching early. Financially that's difficult though. Right now I'm doing a free introductory course through Coursera and then I plan on doing a Google certificate and then looking at some in-person training.

It's intimidating because private sector is more competitive than teaching. It's also something I'm learning from the ground-up. I'm not a particularly ambitious person and not career-minded, but I've begin thinking about "hustle" and pursuing goals and trying. That seems like a good sign.

Winds of change are beginning to blow, but I'm not in a hurricane quite yet. Slow start, but my resolve is growing.

Summer is flying by even faster than usual. Less than a month until office hours start and if I dwell too long on it I become quite anxious and sad. That said, I do have to begin preparations at some point. I'm teaching a new grade and totally new curriculum. Not thrilled about it, but at least I get to work with a new teacher buddy.
