I went to my classroom yesterday. I'm not quite sure if it could be considered "ripping off the Band-Aid" though. I put a few things out and got together with a coworker about curriculum for my new grade level classes. I haven't started building my new Canvas page or creating slideshows yet.
During the last school year as I considered leaving the profession I struggled profoundly with the prospect of leaving my coworkers. Over this summer, spending time away from everyone, I've begun to feel more comfortable with that concept. I am concerned that going back to full-time teaching this year will bring that problem back.
I do love my coworkers but the more I study UX Design, the more interested I become and feel that I could really find more of "my people." Teachers are a special breed-a breed that I'm not quite sure I belong to. That said, they are great folks and I appreciate them and enjoy working with them.
Leaving teaching will be tough. Leaving my peeps and leaving the schedule (it's REALLY convenient having the same days off as my son and having summers off) and leaving my workplace that is comfortable and nearby. A solid 45 minute commute somewhere would make my mornings pretty rough! That said, I would prefer an in-person job than remote, so that drive would be worth it.
While the school year is nearly upon me, I struggle with prioritizing my time. I'm part of a writing group with a couple other teachers and they are quite intent on their writing. My screenplay doesn't seem up to par and I'm struggling to write of late and my sense of urgency is gone. I want to hang it up for a while, but feel pressure to perform for the group. Honestly, I feel like a third wheel, but I'm not sure if they would continue to meet without me.
Really, I want and need to focus on UX Design studies. Something might have to give and if it's the writing group... it's the writing group.
Change is happening.
