The Grind

This is my first week back in the office (sans students though). Meetings, meetings, meetings. I feel like I've barely begun actual preparations for students! I'm enjoying seeing my comrades but I feel a bit like wolf among sheep with my plans to leave as quickly as I can through the UX Design exit plan. That said, I'm enjoying everyone's company while I can.

I'm teaching a new grade this year-11th. Luckily, one of my department buddies is also teaching that grade and is willing to help me out as much as I need. That said, we are still figuring out what our first lessons should be and I don't have anything planned beyond some icebreakers and opening activities.

My son is entering a challenge program through the public school. He's been accepted into a program within the elementary and middle schools that places advanced learners into specific classrooms for more challenging curriculum. We got the welcome email from the teacher yesterday. It was GINORMOUS. Awesome to get so much information, but a little intimidating.

I'm nervous. Excited for him, but nervous.

His ADHD is one thing. His emotional regulation is another. The homework load and his meds wearing off and his emotion regulation sparking issues-a big concern. That said, I think he needs this. Lucky for us one of his friends from 1st grade is in the program and same class! Me and their mom get along well and we've already talked about "Project Parties" for some of the home-based projects they will be required to do.

My first thought reading that welcome email was, "I'm going to have to quit my job!" It just felt overwhelming and like my son would need so much support to keep up and on top of school. We shall see. I wish I was part-time again so I had more time for my UX studies and to support my son. As is, I'm afraid of how impatient and tired I will be when he needs support the most during homework time.

We shall see.
